Tanya Lopez serves as Senior Pastor of Downey Memorial Christian Church. She is ordained by the Pacific Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Cal State University, Fullerton and a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology. She has been involved in church leadership at the congregational, regional, and general levels. Rev. Lopez is passionate about discovering ways to help people connect to God, each other and to their communities. She is bilingual and sees herself as a bridge to help bring communities and generations together. Tanya is a creative thinker who seeks to lead and serve others from a place of radical hospitality, welcome and inclusivity. She and her husband, Rev. Al Lopez, are the proud parents of two wonderful girls. Administrative Pastor | Pastor Administrativo Rev. Al Lopez Rev. Al Lopez serves as our Administrative Pastor. He completed his Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology and is ordained by the Pacific Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). His experiences serving on the board of various Church ministries, nonprofit organizations, and higher education institutions has empowered and inspired him to envision novel approaches to "churching." He has helped establish and lead new churches as well as nonprofit organizations. Rev. Lopez is also a Professional Coach-in-training under the auspices of the International Coach Federation. Associate Pastor | Pastor Asociado Rev. David Becerra Rev. David Becerra serves as Associate Pastor of Downey Memorial Christian Church and is ordained by the Pacific Southwest Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Rev. Becerra began his educational path studying Engineering before immigrating to Southern California. He holds a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry degree from California Christian University. His extensive ministry career started in local interdenominational churches, where he developed a calling as a teacher. He dedicated years to missionary work, establishing a new church in Baja California, Mexico and eventually planted a church here in Downey. He also actively served the homeless community at a major downtown shelter.

It is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ. Disciples are called together around belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. People are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer, and are expected to extend that freedom to others. We hold the centrality of Scripture, recognizing that each person has the freedom and the responsibility to study God's Word within the community of the church. In baptism the old self-centered life is set aside, and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored. ONENESS OF THE CHURCH THE MINISTRY OF ALL BELIEVERS All Christians are called to be one in Christ and find ways to work together in showing God's love through witness and service. We hear a special calling to make visible the unity of all Christians. In our diversity we belong to one another because we commonly belong to Christ. Both ministers and lay persons lead in worship, service, and spiritual growth. We affirm the priesthood of all believers, rejoicing in the gift of leadership that God has given for the common good.
